Uncharted to Start Filming in 2015
July 17, 2014The game series that has sold over 17 million copies worldwide is heading to the big screen.
In February, we found out that Seth Gordon was slated to be the director of the upcoming film Uncharted based on the game series of the same name. Now, Zap2It has had the chance to speak with Gordon to see when we can be expecting the filming to begin on the long-awaited project. (It has been in development since 2008 with many different names rumored to have been tied to it before Gordon was announced as director)
“I think very early next year. That’s the plan. That’s like tomorrow, essentially, because the prep is so complicated for the movie.”
Gordon says the setting of the movie will be “very international” and “all over the world.”
He also spoke with Zap2It about who he would want to play Nathan Drake, the games heroic adventure-seeker. For a long time, it was rumored that Mark Wahlberg would play Drake, but this was never confirmed. Fans have been sounding off on the net as well about who they would like to see in the role. The likes of Joe Flanigan, Nathan Fillion, Jensen Ackles and Nathan Fillion are just some of the names that have been mentioned by fans.
Of this, Gordon stated;
[blockquote]”I want it to be a great actor. That’s number one, and then if it’s someone who has an actual jaw, that’s even better. The game is so well done that you need it to live up to that. There’s no way we’d do the inverse of that where it’s somebody famous who can’t [act].”[/blockquote]
Gordon also revealed that the film will more likely be “inspired by” the Uncharted games, rather than have storylines that have already been done in the games unravel on film.
“It’s going to honor the mythology of the game, but I would say honor some of the most interesting stuff from the first one and build from there.”
Gordon continues, “I love the complexity and frankly the sophistication of the storytelling in the game, and we aspire to that — but don’t want to tell the exact same story, of course — so something that doesn’t break the rules of what it did but expands. Because I feel like the people who play the games and know them well don’t want to just see the same story told. You want extra shades.”
Do you think it sounds like Gordon has a good handle on what fans will want to see in an Uncharted film? Why or why not? Who would you like to play the infamous Nathan Drake? Let us know in the comments below!
